To clairfy Ichiro...
I meant if Ichiro reitred today, he should be a 1st ballot HOF. Sandy K did not meet any milestones, but I think most if not all would agree he was a no-brainer HoFer. I would think Ichiro is in that class of BB player, dominant game changer...a perfect segue to my next question/poll.
..If a player today was so dominant over X numbers of years a la Sandy Koufax, should he be an automatic HoFer? If so, what kind of stats are we talking about? |

Look at Mattingly. He was the best player in the game for 3 or 4 years and you can say dominant from 1984 trough 1989. However his back injury made him a mediocre player for the rest of his career. He was great .. but not long enough to make it into the hall. I should mention that he was my favorite Yankee of all time. He was really great to watch in his prime. What stats should qualify someone who had a short career?? I don't know ... I guess it is one of those things like ... you know it when you see it.
