NFL Football; Random Thoughts

Since we all ready have a Jets and Giants thread I figured we needed a thread to discuss other teams, players and league happenings. Since it is a very interesting time in the NFL right now I will start with a few topics.

The Oakland Raiders: Now that the upper Management of the Detroit Lions have finally awakened from their coma and finally fired Matt Millen, the Raiders now hold the distinction of being the biggest Joke of a franchise in the NFL. This once great Franchise has been reduced to a shadow of themselves due to it’s self absorbed (and probably senile) owner, Al Davis. Why the league hasn’t stepped in and limited his role or actions mystifies me. I may not be a Raider fan, but this team was always a great watch with a unique mix of great players and greater characters. Now the only character left is Davis. This is not about firing his head Coach, Lane Kiffen. It’s all the moves he’s made in the last decade. Five coaches in six years, firing Jon Gruden, Drafting JeMarcus Russell first overall, than not wanting to pay him, firing coaches and not paying them their guaranteed contracts, and signing over rated free agents. Maybe Commissioner Goodell will step in and make Davis hire someone else to run the team, Matt Millen is looking for a job!

THAT receiver on Cincinnati, what’s his name?: I have been watching ESPN’s Sports Center the last few weeks and haven’t seen that guy from the Bengals on it. I thought he was one of the regulars, like one of their overblown hosts/reporters. Maybe his “hey, everybody look at me” attitude has finally sunk in on all the DB’s in the league. When’s he’s on Sports Center looking good, there’s usually a DB on too, looking not so good.

The Tennessee Titans are 4-0; The Titans and Buffalo Bills are the only 4-0 teams after 4 games. While this in itself is amazing, the fact that the Titans are 3-0 with Kerry Collins at QB is mind boggling. The Titans have Baltimore and KC up next and could be 6-0 when Vince Young is ready to come back. If the reports of Vince Young being suicidal were inaccurate a few weeks ago, he might be now!

I am a Steelers fan from the early 70's (became one on the Immaculate Reception game) so I hate the Raiders; this couldn't happen to a nicer team. Davis is a joke and hope he stays around a long time to continue his assinine comments and his teams descent to the bottom of the barrell.

For some reason I think this story is only going to get stranger as the weeks go bye

Didn't Davis try to withhold paying Shanahan too after he fired him? He must think the NFL is stupid. I knew something was up when Kiffin had Janiknowski attempt a 75 yard FG.

Do the Raiders have the dubious distinction of firing 2 coaches (Shanahan and Gruden) who later went on to win Super Bowls with other teams?

Iget maybe you have forgotten, but Kerry Collins has been an accomplished QB in these league who can make all of the throws. He has proven in the past that you can be very successful with him behind center. He helped the Titans in to the playoffs last year in the last game of the season. Also, not counting the Super Bowl, Collins played very well for the Jints when he was here. I was at the NFC Championship game against the Vikings, and I just could not believe how dominant he was in that game to only stink it up the next game in da bowl. Than again he did face one of the better Ds in all time in da bowl.

Vincent Young will be back, but they are not gonna rush him unless they lose 3 in a row.
