Regarding stage dances - GoGoRama puts on the best anywhere. You can honestly have a good time on a busy night just sitting at the stage and it will only cost a buck or two every twelve minutes.

I was careful not use the word un-amreican. It was just an interesting expression of not US cultural exuberance.

If the game is tied after two overtimes, it is decided by a best of five penalty kick shootout.

    Ya think? :)

For many years (until the economic collapse in 2001) Argentina, with its currency tied to the American dollar and its belief that it was living life as a European country rather than a South American one, tended to treat other Latino countries and certainly its poorer neighbor Brazil with an upturned nose. While Argentinos are always quite nice to Americans, they have a reputation for being not so nice to Brazilians, Mexicans, Cubans, Uruguayans, et al. Brazilians probably got quite the shit end of the stick, being their neighbors and economic dependents. So it's not a shocker that Brazilians take a lot of glee in watching the Argentinos lose -- particularly when they're the defending champions waiting to reclaim the title.

Hmm, could it be that the reason was that the only Americans in there were the stray johns waiting for a handjob from the Brazilians?

The so-called high(er)-end places, like PEC and Hustler in New York, at least pretend to still put some store in stage work. But since the convention is that there's no stage tips at clubs like that, the girls of course hate stage time, viewing it as a black hole in their earnings picture.

    There is a rivalry

Brazil and Argentina are huge rivals, culturally and in soccer. Since the Playhouse has quite a few brazilians working there I'm sure they were loving every minute of Argentina's defeat to Germany. The the TV watch was bad then dont go tomorrow afternoon- Brazil vs France! Nothing (or no-one) will get done. Actually if your there, and Brazil wins, then quickly snap up one of the Brazilian girls to the private dance rooms, you'll proboably get the full service dance of your life! :)

I went to the Playhouse today. I go when I can which is not as often as I like.

Two things there struck me as interesting and one caused me to wonder about the state of the Strip Club review.

First, I noticed more and more dancers gather at the dancer corner of the bar and watching TV. World cup was on Germany vs. Argentina. I know very little about soccer so I'm just guessing here. It was the end of the game and for some reason each side was getting shots on the goal: kicker vs goalie. When the Germans scored the girls went wild hooting and hollering. When the Germans blocked a kick almost as much ruchous. If Argentina scored. Major depression. Apparently, there is something of an Argentina - Brazil rivalry. Even the girls dancing were watching the screen. There was something very non-American about the whole thing.

Second, when I first started writing about SCs, a review consisted of several standard parts. (1) Physical layout of place, bar, dancers stage, operations and general ambience. (2) General commentary about the dancers appearence (3) General commentary about dancers dance ability: pole work, floor work, etc. (4) Commentary on mileage as actually experienced.

What I find about the Playhouse is that the dancers have almost no classical strip club dancing skills. Pole and floor work is practically non existant. I am guessing this is because dancing really has very little to do with income as there is no tipping over the bar (I mean, you can but no one does). It is how long they can get you in the back room that counts.

Are there still clubs where the dance is still important or are they all gone?

Oh and there was a sign on the way out quoted as best as I remember:

    Girls,
when you go out for a smoke you must be dressed.
Or, at least wearing a robe.

    NO FLASHING
    You'll get us closed down

    thanks
