I saw the whole thing. What strites me is the earning figures: $350 to $400 for regular FS, $1000 for greek, double entry and other exotic acts. The girl in the interview earned $100,000 a year. It doesn't sound like a lot of money compare with what a middle class provider can earn.

The girl at the trade show who said something like "I'm just an average girl..... with a very bizarre occupation" is Serenity. Gorgeous girl. If you want a high quality 10 min clip (100 MB) of Serenity in a great scene try this link I found.

    cqmfaxns.9online.fr/3XT_Scene1.part1.rar
d/l parts 1 thru 6 then use WinRAR to combine and extract the .avi

funny, today there's a quiz on Excalibur's home page with a photo of Belladonna and the question "who is she?".

slinky I did say "fairly well" which does certainly leave room for improvement (re: policing themselves). I give kudos to them for being strict about regular testing and AFAIK the actual number of cases of AIDS or hepatitis is quite low across the industry.

Certain occupations are inherantly riskier than others e.g. firefighters, law enforcement, certain sports, even being in the circus. The sex industry is another one - so of course there are going to be accidents (diseases) and deaths. But given the circumstances and based on what I've read the death / disease rate is surprisingly low in the adult industry. Which is in large part due to the testing standards now in place. Also as far as the health insurance issue goes, I agree with the industry on this. The vast majority of these girls are short-term contract workers and I don't think it's called for to provide every single one of them health insurance. If I hire an independant worker to put roofing on my house I don't think I have to provide him/her health insurance. For long-term contracts like Vivid girls, etc I'd say its appropriate in that case however.

Overall - the industry is providing a certain level of protection and support but could do better. Now that I think about it, perhaps pieces like the ABC one can have a positive effect if it prompts the industry to take proactive / pre-emptive action and make further improvements.

the focus on a "superstar" like belladonna is misleading........as such crap always is.

how about a story about some of the gals who pose for all of the porn you find on the net. probably got paid next to nothing for doing it. i'm sure that it really had a positive impact on their lifes.

get real! abc is just pandering for rating points.

I'd like to see some income figures for the well-known cable companies, the ISPs, the hotels etc who provide porno to the middle class.

Did not see the show but I'm sure it didn't say anything about the false HIV tests some actors use and how the producation companies never check to be sure there legit. Just read a story this week about this subject and it sure was a eye opener. Dont remember the site it was on but lukeford.com has tons of that shit along with the pon starlets who took their own lives. Not that I'm trying to be a moralist on this, I loves the porn, but with the big bucks being made they, the industry, need to police themselves.

The show was crap. Considering they spent a huge amount of time following Belladonna around, and they get an apparently quite emotional and honest interview, and they just edit it down to the usual hoohah .... There was a major piece in the Times Sunday mag a few months ago about corporate America's profiteering off of porn, so ABC wasn't exactly breaking news here. Also, I have videos where Belladonna actively encourages the male actors to "choke me out," and talks about how much she loves rough sex. She's practically giddy. Even as one of the most empowered-seeming porn stars ... and an over-the-top sexual athlete who could chew a normal man in half .... it;s not surprising that she has mixed feelings about what she does for a living .... I think we all do, even if it's not so extreme, exposing and demanding; are not barely 21, female and strongly emotional ... and come from a restrictive religious background.
So add all that together, plus the TV cameras, plus unctuous Diane Sawyer, etc., and this is what happens. Anyway, quite a cavalcade of characters on display if you follow porn.

They alluded several times to how big the porn industry is and how "Corporate America" is making big bucks on it, but they really came short of telling what's really going on. Could it be because of the squeaky clean image of parent company Disney would be tarnished if they told of how much money they made of of this stuff? It wouldn't be the first time Disney pulled strings with ABC News division to protect thier special interests.

But Ryan, I disagree with you (somewhat) on how good the industry is at policing it's own shit. I think the funniest thing about this peice was how they missed most of the really bad stuff that goes on (they may have alluded to it, but they really didn't show any of the many known cases of people who's lives were ended by this undustry).

So Diane and ABC got into the business tonight. and they also made buck off the girls' work. Me, I'm not much of a porn fan. The girth of the male stars makes me feel inadequate.

I saw the whole thing. I guess they were trying to paint a bad picture of porn but if thats all they could come up with well that says something. Are there areas / aspects in the porn industry that could be improved ? Sure... as with most things in society. They made sure to throw in lots of shots of scenes with Belladonna getting her neck "strangled", guys hands in her mouth pulling her cheeks, getting gangbanged by 12 guys in a prison, etc... lots of rough stuff. If they threw that stuff in at the last minute without discussing it somehow with her that doesn't sound right. But she's still in the industry and winning awards and making 6 figures and seemed pretty happy signing autographs and having fun with her fans. If she has some emotional issues she'd still have them whatever job she took. And some of the other girls said nothing but positive things about the industry and it seemed genuine...... and I suspect it is...... because the porn industry DOES police itself fairly well. Could they do better? Yes. The part about informing 18-19 year old girls how working in porn even just one movie can affect their future... I'd agree that would be a right thing to do.

Anyways one part I found amusing at the end was, Belladonna's friend from Utah originally was disgusted by it all when she found out what she was doing...... but later she got in herself too.

Also ironic was, Belladonna's mom said she hated the Fortune 500 companies who make millions off porn "at the expense of innocent girls like her daughter"..... but Belladonna was using her $$ to put her older sister through college because their family couldn't afford it.

o well...not too many people probably caught it...

It dealt with how young girls were recruited and also involved interviews with some of them and how they came and left the industry, but the focus was mostly on the gap-toothed cutie Belladonna....
