    This is old news...

This been happening for about 6 years now. It started a few months after Rancid Rudy got into office. This writer must be scraping the bottom of the journalistic barrel.

Slinky, you may very well be correct, but I don't know.... this girl didn't look like a normal woman who was simply wearing an outlandishly tight, revealing leather outfit. Her hair was done up, she had permed blonde hair, she had a really fake tan, and way too much makeup on.

Though, to be fair, I've just described 90% of Union, New Jersey.

Seriously, though, it was way beyond that. I don't know. Maybe tomorrow evening I'll pass by again. Not to pick up, but simply to satisfy my curiosity. I walk that way on a daily basis anyhow.

    Only because I was there.

Trust me, the girls you see on 8th Street are not ( however, there is a place on 9th street......see the old posts ). Take a look at two stores there - Patriica Field and the one on the SouthEast corner of MacDougal ( where th eBaskin Robbins used to be ). Don't be surprised to see women walking around in the stuff they sell in the stores right there.

Although, I will say that I have seen a number of women who worked at Show World walking down 8th Stgreet at various times. I just don't think they were "working" 8th Street.

if it was 8th and 5th then i see them all the tome there.....

only the APM has convinced me that every hot girl i see in sexy outfits in NYC isn't necessarily a hooker.

why does he keep ruining it for me?

then there was the time three sexy young girls tried to talk their way into my car there too.....

    i refused them................really!

You know, interestingly enough, I was walking along 8th Street at about 10:00 p.m. tonight and right at the corner of Sullivan I noticed a woman totally done up a tight leather dress, sexy boots, with blonde hair and a lot of makeup. She was actually really, really hot in a slutty, Bridge-and-Tunnel sort of way.

I thought.... a streetwalker, maybe?.... but I didn't stick around to find out.

    Any thoughts?

Unfortunately I work late into the night.......

Who would not like a young lass pulling up as you walk out of your office building offering a "topper" or other dalience to end the evening.

Guess I will have to keep my eyes open and alert.

BTW, if your driving and offering on 46th between
Mad and Fifth, around 10:00-10:30, slow down.

What's the deal with prostitution in Paris? Is it legal there?

Drive by hookers is widely used in Europe. Paris is full of elegant escorts waiting around in their cars, they can be found in almost any decent neighborough all night long.

    Have never tried....

    But certainly would!

But then again....being the paranoid freak I am I would be too chicken shit to do it thinking it might be LE taking a new approach.

By DOUGLAS MONTERO - New York Post

Convertible-driving prostitutes, like this one helping columnist Douglas Montero, um, research this column, are now cruising Midtown Manhattan.
    - NYP: Sam Costanza

May 14, 2001 -- THE woman at the Midtown traffic light peered out of the sports car that was sleeker than her legs.
She flashed a sweet smile and used her long nails to brush her hair aside. She wasn't lost.

She's part of the growing crop of "hail hookers," women who have abandoned dingy street corners for luxury cars that they use to cruise Midtown like cabdrivers looking for fares.

In the street, it's called prostitution "New York Style."

The hookers say Mayor Giuliani's quality-of-life crackdown has forced many of them to take their bodies on the road during the early-morning hours looking for lonely men.

Samantha, 20, said she sought shelter in a car more than one year after several run-ins with beat cops and a loitering arrest.

"The cops tell us, 'Don't walk the street - get in your car and go,'" said Samantha, who didn't want to give her real name. "They [cops] don't bother you as much in a car."

To the naked eye, Samantha looked like a spoiled rich kid looking for trouble in dad's car, when she pulled up alongside me at 4 a.m. near the Sheraton Hotel.

Her fresh smile could make an ugly fat man feel cute.

"You want to hang out?" Samantha said as the light changed and the car behind her honked. She told me to cross Seventh Avenue, where she pulled her 2000 Mustang convertible over on 53rd Street.

Sexy yet firm, Samantha was strictly business - running the tips of her fingernails up her thigh, while telling me it will cost $200 for her body.

Hail hookers like Samantha usually target Midtown tourists who already have hotel rooms. She offered a $60-a-night 10th Avenue hotel. She was willing to drive me there or follow behind my car or a cab to whatever location I felt relaxed at.

Hail hookers feel more comfortable in cars because they, like cabbies, can pick and choose their customers. On the corner, you get whatever comes along, she said.

"It makes you feel more in control," the Brooklyn woman said. "You feel safer."

Samantha started in a rented car. Six months ago she was able to afford her own car, which is well kept and decorated with two small crystal angels.

Hail hookers usually lease Mercedes Benzes, Lexuses, but they mostly like convertibles because, as Samantha notes, "It's hard for a guy to check out your body when you're sitting in a car."

Others drive "buckets," a derogatory reference to family cars like a Honda.

Samantha doesn't have a set rate. She charges customers based on their appearance - with fees ranging from $100 to $400. That's why the hookers prefer to circle around tourist-filled hotels like vultures after 4 a.m. when the neighborhood bars and strip joints close.

"When the bars close, the desperation kicks in," said Steve, an area worker who watches the city sex trade at night.

Some even line up along the curb outside strip clubs like executive limo services to wait for the "hot and bothered" guys to walk out.

The desperate men are easy to spot.

Greg, a 40-year-old school teacher, remembers stumbling out of a Midtown bar at 3 a.m. recently when a gorgeous woman in a fancy sports car pulled along side of him at 56th Street and Seventh Avenue.

    She smiled. He smiled back.

She handed Greg a business card with the words "Dream Travel" printed in bold letters. "If you want to play, give me a call," the woman said as she drove off.

Greg thought he picked up a travel agent until he examined the card closely, read "For the trip of your dreams," and realized the woman was a hooker.

"It's better," Greg said. "You don't feel like it's going to be sleazy, you know, like you're picking up a whore on the street.'

"It's a woman in a sports car. You feel this is going to be better."
