I have flown twice since Tuesday, once out of NYC. Security is noticeably tighter, and the general atmosphere at airports reflects a concern for safety and precaution. Unless you feel so terribly worried about your flight that it will mitigate against the overall enjoyment of your trip, I see no reason not to go. As our President, Mayor, and others have suggested, we need to resume our regular lives. To do otherwise acknowledges that the terrorists have won.

    Relax

I hate flying too and over Labor day I visited my family in Ohio and I was nervous the entire flight to Ohio and this was before the tragedy. Drive somewhere and relax , I drove back from Ohio and it was nice to have total control of my travel. I stopped and slept in a hotel and the next morning I got back on the road. Things are in such an unstable way ,do what you feel.

Yo, mdoc, why you going off on HP.

Are you saying that if a Delta Force guy or an Air Marshall made a mistake and took you out that you wouldn't be pissed ?

Why is the concern of innocent people so secondary to you ?

It seems HP was voicing a concern, that's all. Don't see the need for jumpin' all over him.

    Just MHO

Please edit the word "vacuum" from your previous post and replace it with "Oreck". Then the entire group will get what you mean.

This makes no sense. Are you living in a vacuum? Terrorists just demonstrated that they can take over four planes and crash three of them into large buildings in order to kill as many people as possible.

So, Mr. Puppy, what do you want? Sky Marshalls to protect your ass and discourage the terrorists from ever trying this again (with the slight chance that you will get in the line of fire) or do you want to keep things the way they are? Perhaps you have another suggestion of how to secure the planes that is better than all this.

By all means let us know.

And while your at it, get some balls. This country is at war with unkown forces. We need to PREVENT their use of OUR infrastructure against us. If that means protecting U.S. planes at the incredibly slight risk of wounding your precious body then so be it.

If I sound pissed off its because I am.

    Doc.

There aren't enough well trained people to man the airports, I don't think we can find 2 highly trained marshalls for every plane in the air. The personnel that we would be likely to have would be your typical security guard, not even as tough as your typical bouncer.

April, as I understand it, the US Air Force monitors all traffic that is approaching US airspace. Any incoming object without a proper signal would be intercepted by a couple of our jets. But once they've entered US airspace, they are no longer tracked by the Air Force but I think the FAA might still track them.

And I have no need to edit your emails to me. Don't have to. You, yourself make the case very well for yourself being the sick fuck you claim I am.

And I never responded to your sick emails.

And what about emails to other UG members in which you not only demean and degrade the UG member himself, but also his wife and daughters?

What did this members wife and daughter ever post here on UG for you to demean and degrade them?

    Phantom,
    Post away.
Anyone with even the slightest bit of intelligence who has been following our disagreements, will understand the nature of my private missives to you.
If you choose to go this route you will gain supporters- AND people that will believe that you are a crybaby that cant be trusted. Go ahead and set the precedent.
As to why I criticize some of your posts? I find the ones I do respond to to be particularly poorly reasoned out, and inaccurate(like the one above),not to mention vulgar and unsolicited on occasion, such as the "Up Yours" from not long ago.
Do what you will with my emails. I actually dont have them in my files , so you can even edit them to make any point you want. The only reason I didnt post them to the board was to save bandwidth, spare the readers, and even spare you embarrasment.

I'll be in the minority by saying that I haven't been comfortable with air travel for the past few years, perhaps since deregulation. Between the increase in volume (greater chance of collisions), air traffic controllers being over worked and underpaid, maintenance being trimmed due to thin profits and lax airport security, I just don't feel comfortable. But that was when I was travelling more frequently for a living.

The odds are with you if you are travelling infrequently for leisure purposes. I like driving more than flying and like car trips, they just take more time.

    Hotpuppy,

Lately it seems to me that you have gone out of your way to critize everyone of my posts. Would you care to explain to the other members of UG, why?

Or should I tell them and post your emails to me?

Considering the capitalization AND the boldening, you must be correct. I however do not trust anyone or anything that is "absolutely sure" of extreme events. But since you are "absolutely sure", I would imagine that you would have no problem imagining yourself in the scenario, and say in very close proximity to the terrorist about to be "ventilated". Are you "absolutely sure", that the "super elite Delta team" guy ( the same guys that accept "collateral damage" as part of getting the job done), is not going to miss with one of his ventilation rounds and put one in you or someone else? Well, no need to answer, because you are "absolutely sure".

I'm ABSOLUTELY SURE that the armed agents placed aboard these fights will be able to differentiate between a boorish, drunk passenger and a armed hijacker trying to take control of the plane.

If I remember correctly, there have been one or two instances in which hijackings have been foiled by passengers overcoming the hijacker (and I'm not talking about what heppened on Tuesday). Does anyone else with more knowledge of this remember these instances?

    They detained 10 arrested one

The system seems to be working... grabbed a bunch of people yesterday.... and as has been mentioned they will have people on the plane and I think most people are going to be a little jumpy for a while. Keep your eyes open and hands ready to grab some idiot with a box opener.
